High Performance Thermoplastic Polymers like PEI, PEEK and PPS are making more and more inroads into the Aircraft Industry. Tubus Bauer our partner company in the ACC team is currently manufacturing a High Performance Tubus PEI Core which outperforms NOMEX in FST/Heat Release.

Thermoplastic Surface Materials
High performance thermoplastic surface materials like PEI and LEXAN XHR 6.000 , non-perforated and perforated, for aircraft trim panel applications.

Thermoplastic Sandwich Panels
Ultra Light, Thermoplastic Sandwich Panels for aircraft interior applications with one side or both side perforated surface materials available on customer demand. 3D deep-draw articles will be manufactured according our own new process technology within minutes (Patent pending). Aircraft Trim Panels

Interior noise quality and speech intelligibility has become an important product differentiator in VIP cabins of mass transportation systems. Profound studies of airborne and structure-borne noise transmission through aircraft fuselages interaction with both external and internal noise sources have been conducted and this complex energy flow phenomenon has been analyzed.

Based on this insight Pelzer Consult GmbH, a sister company of Happich developed a new trim panel with a radically new design. Our new cabin interior trim panels with optimal acoustic properties can be used for roof, window, side wall, kick-panels, cockpit, crew rest areas and bulkhead applications in VIP aircrafts and VIP Helicopters. Increased absorption properties on one hand lead to shorter decay times – shorter reverberation times (RT60) in cockpit and cabin. This means more privacy for passengers and crew. On the other hand lower panel radiation leads to lower Sound Pressure Levels (SPL).

Our new Aircraft Trim Panel with Integrated Adjustable Acoustics (Patent pending) provides the following acoustic benefits:

  • Same or higher sound transmission loss (STL)

Thermoplastic 3D Sandwich Panels

Thermoplastic 3D deep-drawn sandwich panels with open or closed surface providing lower panel weight, manufactured using a new highly rational manufacturing method (Patent pending)

Thermoplastic PEI or PC FR sandwich panels can be manufactured in a fraction of current processing time compared to conventional thermoset materials. Further, thermoplastic materials can be fully recycled and belong therefore to the “green materials”. Our answer to the new composite aircraft like Airbus A350 XWB and Boeing 787. PEI and PC FR materials fulfill the new stringent flammability, toxicity and smoke requirements of Airbus and Boeing.

Base on our lightweight design with PEI or PC FR tubus cores we offer substantial weight and cost reduction compared to current technology with prepregs and NOMEX honeycombs.

Acoustic Trim Panel Testing

During the development phase of our new advanced Aircraft Trim Panel with integrated adjustable Acoustics (patented) we came to the conclusion that we need an adequate vibro-acoustic test device for such complex systems.

We therefore developed a special Transmission Loss (TL) suite to analyze trim panel systems in respect of Noise Radiation, Sound Transmission Loss (STL), Sound Absorption & Panel Damping Loss Factor (DLF).

Our white paper (see download) describes the vibro-acoustic functions in full details. The complex energy flow in an aircraft wall has been analyzed and was basically the fundamental information for our advance trim panel design. The main test results are described and discussed.

We offer our acoustic tests services to all interested customers involved in aircraft trim especially for VIP cabin or similar applications in pleasure boats, high speed trains and VIP coaches.
